The teenager who was tackled by an amped up Texas police officer Friday night following a pool party says she believes the cop thought she and her friends were talking back to him when he decided to throw her to the ground.
Fifteen-year-old Dajerria Becton was the teen taken down by McKinney Police Corporal Eric Casebolt in the viral video seen by millions.
Becton said she had not been part of the fight between a party goer and a white woman who reportedly was using racist language and telling the black guests to go back to their neighborhoods.
“He told me to keep walking, and we were walking and I guess he thought we were saying rude stuff to him” Becton said.
As seen in the video, Becton is thrown to the ground as Casebolt yanks her arms behind her back causing her to cry out in pain.
“He grabbed me, twisted my arm on my back and shoved me in the grass and started pulling the back of my braids,” Becton said. “I was telling him to get off me because my back was hurting bad.”
Despite roughing her up, Casebot did not arrest the young woman, turning her over to her family when they arrived.
According to a displeased aunt of Becton “It wasn’t right, I think his force was excessive.”
Casebolt is currently suspended, but Becton believes his punishment should go well beyond that.
“Him getting fired is not enough,” she said.
