We are all grateful for dashcams. They are useful for catching both hilarious moments and scary moments. This unbelievable footage is from a police cruiser’s dashcam in Arizona. It captures the moment that Officer Michael Rapiejko mounts the sidewalk at an astonishing speed, ramming an armed suspect. The footage, taken from two separate cruisers, shows Mario Valencia walking along a street in Marana, Arizona, firing a weapon into the air. As can be seen in the video, the officer orders Valencia to “stand down”, with his voice becoming more and more frantic. Another cruiser then pulls around, showing Rapiejko speeding towards Valencia, mounting the sidewalk and crashing into the armed suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries, however he was subsequently released two days later.
Arizona’s police chief has defended the officer’s actions and credited him for saving Valencia’s life — whom they believe was suicidal. Currently, there is speculation regarding the actions of Rapiejko, believing that he should be charged with disobeying direct orders, assault with a deadly weapon and destruction of property, among others.
