This Happens All The Time In Nature, But You’ve Never Seen It This Close Before

There’s no denying that nature is wonderful, but you don’t need to take in a majestic vista or a magical phenomenon. Sometimes, the breathtaking magic of our little planet can be seen in the smallest things. That was what Reddit user djcuisine found this Memorial Day weekend when they happened upon a tiny creature.

djcuisine stumbled upon this cicada. It had come to the end of its metamorphosis and was ready to come into the world in a new shape.

But not without some effort.

Over the course of about three hours, the young cicada wiggled itself out of its shell and experienced the world for the first time as an adult insect.

It also pulled its wings free, but they were still damp and unable to be used.

“Good morning.”

Once it was completely free, the cicada perched on its shell and waited for its wings to dry out.

As the wings dried, they began to straighten out and become more rigid.

Soon, they were just about dry.

When it was feeling a little braver, it moved over a bit.

It will soon be flying around and making lots of noise!

If big bugs freak you out, don’t worry. Cicadas are loud and big, but they’re harmless to humans and are more interested in making babies than they are in bothering you.

It might not be a traditionally beautiful scene, but this cicada coming into the world is pretty amazing. The world is full of little delights — you just have to know where to look.
