1 ‘I was dumped for being fat… look at my revenge body’‘
2 Going to the gym is a way of life now
HOSPITALITY worker NADINA KNIGHT, 27, lives in south-east London with her partner Jacques, 26, a personal trainer. Nadina says:
When I was in my early twenties, I broke up with my boyfriend Tim, who I’d known since I was 17.
He dumped me for being overweight, and it hurt so much.
His friends called me “chubby” and after he finished with me, he pointedly went out with a girl who was really slim.
Other people were so mean, too — his ex-girlfriend wrote on her Facebook page that he was a “chubby-chaser”.
Tim loved going to the gym and was very fit. To make it worse, his ex was a size 6.
But the break-up — as awful as it was — spurred me on to do something about my weight. I’d had enough of the fat jokes.
I weighed 16st when I was with Tim.
Before I got dumped, it hadn’t bothered me because I had a lot of self-confidence, but the break-up made me take a long, hard look in the mirror — and I didn’t like what I saw.
At Buckinghamshire University, in High Wycombe, I was drinking a lot and my eating was out of control.
I knew little about diet and nutrition but I was determined to make my ex-boyfriend jealous by doing something about my body.
I literally Googled “healthy eating” and set up my own regime.
I cut out alcohol — I didn’t drink for two years — and also gave up fizzy drinks, chocolate, cakes and junk food.
I swapped full-fat milk for skimmed milk, white bread and pasta for brown, and introduced steamed veg and herbal teas into my life.
I also started going to the gym because I realised I needed to tone up my wobbly skin now that I had started losing weight.
In eight months, I lost almost seven stone. The transformation in my body was remarkable.
I loved going to the gym and taking part in classes and it has now become a way of life for me.
About a year later, when I was feeling slim and fabulous, I bumped into Tim’s mum in the local pharmacy.
She said: “I didn’t recognise you.” I was absolutely thrilled.
I’m sure she went home and told Tim how amazing I looked.
But it’s too late for him now and there’s no way I would have had him back anyway.
I am very happy with my partner Jacques, who has known me both before and after my transformation and always been supportive.
He is extremely healthy and fit and these days, we train together.
Getting fit and fabulous was definitely the best revenge for all the hurtful comments.
3 I love the new me
RETAIL worker CAROL SPEIGHT lives in Sheffield with her three children, Bethany, 18, Danielle, 17, and four-year-old Isabelle. Carol, 38, says:
Last year, I split from Martin, my partner of seven years. When I was with him I was so overweight, lethargic and lazy. But then a friend of mine did a boot camp and suggested I try it.
I signed up to a class with British Military Fitness. It was horrific at first but then I started to enjoy it. I also joined Slimming World.
When I was fat and miserable, I’d chopped off all my hair but I let it grow and bought some fabulous trendy clothes. I also started experimenting with make-up and had my boobs done — I’ve gone from a 34B to a 34DD. I love the new me.
I am thrilled with my revenge body. I’m no longer that sad, crying woman with so little expectation of life.
4 I am finally in control
LYN McGIRR is an office manager from Nottingham. She has five children aged between four and 21 – three of them with her ex-husband Peter. The 43-year-old says:
When I was married I was a fat frump. I thought my husband, loved me the way I was but I found out he’d been cheating on me online. We split last May.
I had been in denial about my obesity for years and had the most appalling eating habits. But Peter leaving gave me my life back.
Once he had gone, I got in touch with LighterLife. I started on their programme of four replacement meals a day and lost more than five stone in 17 weeks.
I also started exercising — I play rugby, run, box and go to judo.
I feel so much more comfortable with myself, and I am finally in control. Before, I existed — now I am living.
5 I feel like a whole new person now
HEALTHCARE assistant LAURA WILDE lives near Bradford with her two children Christopher, six, and Olivia-May, four. Laura, 29, says:
When I was with my ex-husband Gary, I had no self-confidence. He used to put me down constantly so I comfort-ate to put up with all the abuse I got from him.
He spent a few months in prison and three-and-a-half years ago, he left for good. It was at that point I decided to re-invent myself.
I joined the National Slimming Clinic and lost five stone in just a few months. I feel like a different person now. Any woman who has been through a traumatic split should get a revenge body.
Then they can look at you and weep at what they have lost.
